Stand-Up Comedy Should Inspire Our Content Strategies
Removing Gatekeepers as Much as Possible
My latest philosophy for content production is from stand-up comedy. Let me explain. 👇
-------------
Podcasting and self-produced, self-released specials have taken over in the world of stand-up comedy, which have eliminated the (historically) big shot gatekeepers of Hollywood.
I'm aiming to do the same in my world.
I'm working hard to ramp up my own content production to publish on my website or elsewhere.
I own it all. I get to say what I want. I get to do what I want.
There are no gatekeepers.
This is a stark difference from working for others.
When you work for yourself, you remove those gatekeepers and get to own your creations forever.
It has taken me a while to get into a groove but now I've found one.
My Favorite Example of Product-Led Growth (PLG) Right Now
WHOOP is my favorite example of product-led growth right now.
I've been aware of them for a few years now, checking out their product every now and then. It has been a while though, but as of yesterday, I need something to replace my Garmin.
I went to Whoop's site, and what do I see? A new option for a one-month free trial that includes the band, device, and battery. If I don't like it at the end, I just send it back.
I've never converted before but immediately converted yesterday. How could I not? It's the perfect opportunity for me as it eliminates the risk that was holding me back before from the higher price point and subscription requirement.
As a bonus, their site experience was slick, too.
It would be FASCINATING to see how the trial offering has impacted their business, know what kind of research insights they've gathered along the way, and understand the full storyline of their strategic progression over the years.
Sun Tzu Knows Whats Up
"Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat."
This applies to SO MANY common business problems.
Teams are often much more concerned with moving fast to meet short-term goals, often related to impatient stakeholders. 😖
This often means they skip proper strategizing or their strategies get frequently blown up for a variety of reasons.
Everyone often just focuses on tactics because that's perceived to be more productive.
It must be strategy, then tactics. Not tactics, then strategy.
Even worse? Tactics alone. 🤦♀️
More teams and businesses as a whole should be willing to take short-term sacrifices for long-term gains. Sometimes sacrifices aren't even required. Sometimes it's just a matter of changing how work is done.
It's fascinating to me how difficult it is to get people on board with this, even if they know it's right but ignore it anyways.
