Why "What if" is sabotaging your CRO testing

...and what to do about it

We love a good article that addresses common mistakes and issues while folding in practical solutions. That’s why we’re running a series “and what to do about it,” check out our most recent publication! 👇

In this blog post we discuss common CRO testing pitfalls while, of course, providing ample resources to help you avoid relying on gut instinct. Getting stuck in a rut of “we think…” or “what if…” is all to easy. ❌ Even worse is the risk of overconfidence we as professionals can fall prey to.

See what ideas we have to help generate hypotheses from genuine customer insights! ⬇️

Test ideation...one of the biggest weak points I see. The struggles aren't particular to an industry, team size, or anything else. It's a thorn in the side for everyone. If you take a step back though, it ultimately makes sense. We talk about this in a recently published article, Top 3 Mistakes We See When Ideating and What to Do About It, I can't think of an instance of working with a client where all three of these haven't been discussed in detail.

📊 Strong test ideation starts with data. Data takes time, resources, and skills to set up, collect, and analyze properly. Not only that, then you have to connect the dots to turn the research insights into strong test ideas. In the business world where many want to move at lightning speed and play for the short-term and not the long-term, the process I described gets cheated or thrown out the window. (Leadership egos are often problematic as well and ideas get shoved into the test pipeline because someone has the authority to do so and say "I know best" without any true evidence to back something up. "I know best" — or some version of that — is not a solid data point. Not saying leadership ideas aren't valuable but there are better options in these cases!)
